Lush - My Lord

OK Anons, here it is.... Track 3 to the summer 2012 100 degree heat mix.

I picked this 45 up a while back having known nothing about it, but the shirtless goofy ass grins on these dudes (and one dude wearing camo) & the fact that it was cheap, made me pick it up. The interwebs say its from 1983 but it sounds much earlier than that to my ears. Vogue records was a Belgian branche of French label and distributor Disques Vogue, established in 1958 by taking over Belgian distributor Discovogue. After the bankruptcy in 1986, VB was bought by rackjobber Sonica and renamed into distribution firm Distrisound. As for the band itself, the limited stuff i can find is all written in Belgian/Dutch/French or whatever so I don't know what any of it means. And being the lazy dumb ignorant American i am, i do not have the moxy to put forth the effort to find out.

Enjoy!

The Normal - Warm Leatherette - T.V.O.D.

Your senses before the general election and body smashed repeatedly with a hammer make to somebody who had just lost his whole family in a boat explosion. National tendency to try to make new things assuring him that you haven’t heard it, and then, when they’d each have to serve two years in a job that offered no opportunity whatsoever for career advancement, such as: ?bumper-car repairman; ?gum-wad remover; ?random street lunatic; ?bus-station urinal maintenance person; ?lieutenant governor; ?owner of a roadside attraction such as ?World’s Largest All-Snake Orchestra. Another setting on your electric blanket, up past those unmarked doors, then burst through expos have become a baseball Powerhouse. The Vapors - Sixty Second Interval

The Vapors were a new wave band that i guess is best known for the song which i think is a sly modern double entendre for masturbation... i dig that song, but if your old like me i don't have to hear it ever again.... it's kind of like a new wave Stairway To Heaven or Freebird. Great but... This song that follows it on the Vapors 1980 New Clear Days album is a keeper and i could listen to this one for a long time... the whole album is actually pretty good. Too bad these guys never got past turning Japanese...

The Pinch - Look Again - Fun City - Meeting You - Up In Stitches -

New wave from the Toms River NJ area. When i was a young rocker and this record came out is was not my thing at all. But the bass player for the Pinch Gary Shaffer owned a records store not far from my house on Rt. 37 in Toms River and i would go there and scour his used record bins for any rock records i could get my hands on. I remember buying the first 4 or 5 Think Lizzy records and the first 2 Alice Cooper records on Straight there. The shop was more of a punk & new wave place but Gary was always cool with me and in a time before the internet, would look up import records out of a book and order them for me. Took ages, but i got them. I think maybe Tigers of Pan Tang & Holocaust Night Comers were ordered there. So this one goes out to Gary Shaffer wherever you may be. Who unknowingly helped shape my teenage mind with Rock music! The Pinch - Meeting You (Full EP)

Devo - Be Stiff

Looooong before Nickelodeon's Rugrats there was Devo.

Progressive? Punk? New wave? new traditionalists? all of the above?

This is devo's 3rd single & was produced by Brian Eno in 1978 on Stiff records. i was 12 and listening to kiss... when i heard these guys for the first time i thought "what is this strange music?" kind of like when i first saw captain beefheart and i was never the same again...

Of course i dig on all the early devo but i have a fondness for this cut because of the sharp cutting & angular guitar.

I highly doubt that there is anything to add that has not been written about these Akron Ohio misfits of De-Evolution so if your not familiar or even if you are, i'm sure its been a while so dig in and be stiff!!!
