(Bruce) Lose - What's Your Name - Waking To Sleep

The other day Flipper's Bruce Loose asked to follow me on instagram... What a weird world... So today in honor of Bruce Loose follwing me on instagram i give you his "solo" 7 inch....

Flipper's Bruce Loose looses an "O" and goes solo with a quieter chaos that goes under the skin and heads for the heart. The stuff that insomnia is made of....

One day the world will see what an interesting and under-rated record this is... Or maybe not....

Lush - My Lord

OK Anons, here it is.... Track 3 to the summer 2012 100 degree heat mix.

I picked this 45 up a while back having known nothing about it, but the shirtless goofy ass grins on these dudes (and one dude wearing camo) & the fact that it was cheap, made me pick it up. The interwebs say its from 1983 but it sounds much earlier than that to my ears. Vogue records was a Belgian branche of French label and distributor Disques Vogue, established in 1958 by taking over Belgian distributor Discovogue. After the bankruptcy in 1986, VB was bought by rackjobber Sonica and renamed into distribution firm Distrisound. As for the band itself, the limited stuff i can find is all written in Belgian/Dutch/French or whatever so I don't know what any of it means. And being the lazy dumb ignorant American i am, i do not have the moxy to put forth the effort to find out.

Enjoy!

Avengers - Paint It Black - Thin White Line

So last week i got to do something i don't get to do very often anymore and that was go out without children! So me and the lady went out for some food and a few drinks at the newly renovated Bond St. Bar in Asbury Park. I used to drink there back in the day when it was a lesbian bar because they used to sell 50 cent Meister Brau! It sat dormant for years but now it is back open and pretty cool. Cheap drinks and cheap, but good food. After we had a few pints of Guinness & some grub (Sweet Potato Fries, Fish Tacos and a Grilled Cheese w/ Artichoke and Sun Dried Tomatoes) we headed north to Long Branch to see The Avengers @ The Brighton Bar! The Brighton is Rock & Roll Legend and so are The Avengers. It was a pretty packed house with a mix of youngins and old farts. After a slew of opening bands, some that were ok, The Avengers took the stage and pretty much nailed it. They played all the "hits" opening the set with We Are The One... Nice. I would have thought they would have played that last but the stormed right out the gate. Singer Penelope Houston looked and sounded great. we didn't have a camera but the lady snapped a blurry pic with the phone. So in honor of getting to see this legendary band i bought myself this here little 6 inch from 1983 and now i give it up to you. They did in fact play the Stones cover live too!!! I bought the patch and button at the gig too. I'm a sucker for kitschy collectable shit...

If you need the 411 on the Avengers here is the Wiki info:

The Avengers are an American rock band in the first wave of American punk rock, formed in 1977 in San Francisco, California. Penelope Houston, who later became a folk musician, was their singer.

Original history
Drummer Danny Furious and guitarist Greg Ingraham decided to start a band, and Danny approached Penelope Houston to be their singer, who agreed. They finished their lineup with Jonathon Postal on bass, although he was replaced shortly after by Jimmy Wilsey. Their first release (which is also the only while the band was originally together) was We Are the One, a three-song EP which was released on Dangerhouse Records in 1977.
The Avengers opened for the Sex Pistols in San Francisco at their final show at Winterland, which led to Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones producing a recording session for the band. In January 1979, Ingraham left the band and was replaced by Brad Kunt, although the band only lasted a few more months until June 1979. An EP, titled Avengers, was released on White Noise Records a few month after the band broke up, which included songs from the Steve Jones produced session.
An album called Avengers (sometimes referred to as the Pink Album, including by Houston herself) was released in 1983. It featured tracks recorded through the band's whole time together, and was compiled by drummer Danny Furious. The album was out-of-print for a long time due to being in "legal limbo", during which time Houston would sell the album in CD-R format directly through her website. The album was re-released in 2010.

Marching Plague - Rock 'N' Roll Asshole E.P. - 1983

Going to stick with the hardcore punk and give you the rock and roll asshole EP from Marching Plague. This is also from 1983 and like the Child Abuse 7inch below is a fast blast of goofy sloppy snotty punk/hardcore. These guys were from Texas. And this has one of my fave punk rock album covers. Awesome....

Child Abuse - Bring It - Mutha 014 - 1983

Here is another from the Mutha files. From 1983 and New Jersey's Child Abuse. This one was just recently added to my quest to collect the entire Mutha catalog. I just happened upon an old NJ musician/store owner that has boxes of old unused stock of some Mutha releases and not having this one it was a welcome addition and at nice price. Anyone have the Burnt 7 inch???
The claim to fame with with one is the fact that the drummer was a mere 12 years old at the time of the recording of this 7 inch. It's no Mental Abuse or Chronic Sick but this an enjoyable quick sloppy mess of a punk/hardcore record and very indicative of the times being had in Jersey back then...
Enjoy a nice little slice of NJHC from 83 and a record that i guess is getting more rare all the time...

Rosemary's Babies - Bloodlust

OK one more Red Boy shout out this week and then I think I'll be done talking to him for the next month! Here ya go ya skinny legged prick!

In my never ending quest to find all thing Jersey here is one that had eluded me for a long while but i finally tracked it down and now for those that give a shit, i now give it to you.

Rosemary's Babies - Bloodlust is a fairly decent NJHC record but i guess the reason this has become sort of sought after is the fact that Eerie Von, who later went on to play w/ Danzing was a member. Misfits freaks who have to have all things Misfit take note.

Rosemary's Babies was an American hardcore punk band formed in Lodi, New Jersey in 1980. Its Members included J.R. - Vocals, Post Mortem (Robert Montena) - Bass, CA Richie (Craig Richardson) - Guitar, and Eerie Von (Eric Stellman) - Drums. The band was active until 1983 and produced a 7" EP titled "Blood Lust", released on the band's own Ghastly Records. A 2004 CD, Talking to the Dead includes tracks from the EP, previously unreleased songs, and tracks recorded live at CBGBs NYC May 15, 1983.

The band's early musical influences included The Misfits, and DC bands such as Minor Threat, The Bad Brains, and State of Alert (featuring vocalist Henry Rollins) as well as early British Oi! bands like Blitz, Charged GBH and Discharge. Other stylistic influences include films such as A Clockwork Orange and Caligula.

Rosemary's Babies was notably active in the New Jersey and New York hardcore punk scenes of the early 80's, and all band members continued to work in the music industry after the demise of the band. Eerie Von moved on to work with Glenn Danzig in the bands Samhain and Danzig.

Fatal Rage - Mutha LP 004

Ok, totally switching ears here from my Halloween month (i hope some of you enjoyed that?) I am back to some home spun New Jersey hardcore punk from 1983 with another Mutha records cult classic!

Formed in 1981, FATAL RAGE was the hardest, fastest, and most outrageous of the "Shorecore" bands. Fronted by the outspoken Jack Monahan (Jacko), the RAGE soon got a reputation for wild performances and terrorizing unsuspecting clubs with performances that immediately turned into nonstop slamfests. They had no problem finding an audience - the problem was finding a place to play as they were banned from all the Jersey clubs.

The 1st few Mutha releases are in my opining the 1st and finest of all the NJHC records and this is no exception. Not only do i have to credit bands like Fatal Rage as an influence but even more importantly lead singer Jacko Monohan, later of Dirge, in particular who I've known now for well over 20 years now.

Jack has been a important part of the NJ scene from way back in the day as he has booked shows at The Brighton Bar in Long Branch, among other places for as long i can remember and back in the day would even make road trips with my shitty hardcore band Social Decay to CT and Boston. He's been a great friend, that's not to say we have not had or problems over the years but anyway...

Fatal Rage were:

Jack Monohan (vocals/lyrics), Jeff Kibbe (guitar), Steve Cote (bass/vocals), Dicky Riddle (guitar), Andy Schweers (drums)

This is an absolute must for NJ HC fans or hardcore fans in general and has been lost for way to many years!

Also: Big Ups to Last days Of man On Earth for the great post about jersey hardcore & punk over there...

The Worst - Expect The Worst - Mutha 005

Here is a little somethhng to get your blood pumping this Friday and get you ready for the weekend.

I've already did a post about the famous "Mutha" label Here: when I posted "The Beast" ep on Mutha so I'll spare you the Mutha details other than to say that these mutha records have grown to be very pricey "collectors" items...

That being said i will say that there is NOTHING punk rock about paying hundreds of dollars for punk albums that you weren't even around for. I traded my Circle Jerks Golden Shower of Hits album for this a way back and I still never found a replacement copy of the Jerks album, oh well... But it was a good deal because this is one of the best NJHC albums of the day and probably the best, along with the Chronic Sick and Fatal Rage, of the "Shore Core" bands.

The Worst - (formerly The Bad Guys) were - Sudz (drums), Jerome (bass), Trezza (guitar), Do It (vocals)

So now you don't have to be Jello Biafra to afford a copy of this New Jersey hardcore punk gem, whom it is told was one of the collectors diving the market on these East Coast records. Enjoy!

Side A:
The Worst - We Are Those
The Worst - Emergency Room
The Worst - I Don't Know - Going To N.Y.
The Worst - Go To Hell

Side B:
The Worst - Face
The Worst - City Of Sin
The Worst - Loud And Fast
The Worst - I Wanna Stop

The Beast - Power Metal EP - Mutha 006 - 1983

OK Folks, gonn stick with punky side of things here and give you another rare New Jersey gem from 1983 on the Mutha label.

I think this is a very under rated Mutha release but i guess because its labeled "Metal" some folks don't want to give it props but besides the shredding guitar playing of "The Hinge" and some of the content of the lyrics this definitely has a punk quality to it.

The guitar playing is top notch by Jack "The Hinge" Pitzer who reminds me a lot of Jack Endino in the Skin Yard days. The Hinge was a long time sound guy at the Legendary Brighton Bar, Long Branch, NJ, where The Beast has played numerous times back in the day and then he went on the play with Greg Gory of the famed Chronic Sick in the band The X-Men with members of NJ Psych greats Secret Syde and Laughing Soup Dish, but that's all a different story entirely...

The Beast Consisted of Scott Ruth (vocals), Jack "The Hinge" Pitzer (guitar), Ronnie Ace (guitar), Jeff Grass (bass), Doug Ryan (drums) - This group emerged from the band TYRANT, which included Mark Mutha. Members of the band were also went on to RIPPING CORPSE, another great NJ thrash metal band.

I've been trying to hunt down and complete my Mutha record collection since back in the day and being from the eara i've been lucky but I'm missing a bunch but i do have a large quantity so stay tuned and I'm sure I'll get to more in the very near future. I think a posting of "The Worst" Expect the Worst might be in order next!

Here is the Mutha story:

MUTHA RECORDS
When it's more than just a great record - IT'S A MUTHA!

Sometime in 1977, THE WORST and SCHRAPNEL tore a hole in the "Springsteen" picture that had represented the Jersey Shore music scene (or "SOAP" - Sounds Of Asbury Park), and so began NJ's premier, strongest, and probably longest lasting Hardcore Punk scene.
In 1978, Mark "Mutha" Chesley was playing in a HM band called TYRANT. He left that band to become manager for The Worst, and soon began hosting Mutha Record Nights at his home in Long Branch, where he would play records by hard and heavy bands like The Stooges, MC5, Blue Cheer, as well as obscure psychedelic bands from the Sixties, and the latest offerings from British and American Punk bands. Under Mutha's watchful eye. Jersey Shore Hardcore bands began to take shape. THE WORST, THE BURNT, CHILD ABUSE, and FATAL RAGE were among the first bands to emerge from this new Mutha-land.
The Fast Lane in Asbury Park (where local bands could open for national acts like The Dictators, Black Flag, etc..) as well as The Hot-Dog House (a rented loft in Asbury) were host to many of the early shows that Mark and the local musicians helped organize. Soon, The Brighton Bar in West Long Branch became home for this growing scene, and remains active to this day. The turning point for the Hardcore scene occured when Mutha Records was established in 1982 - simply for the love of music and to prevent good bands from becoming just a memory. The first release was a 7" EP by THE WORST, followed shortly by releases by CHRONIC SICK, and PUBLIC DISTURBANCE. But Mutha Records was not restricted to Jersey Shore bands, as other bands in the NJ/NY area soon filled Mark's growing catalog. "I'm for the underdog...and the underground" stated Mark, and with his help, music by the bands listed on this page will be around forever - as it should be.
