Pabst Blue Ribbon - 1958 Song

I love past blue ribbon. In fact I am drinking one right now: Still can't find it in bottles in my neck of the New Jersey woods though...

I used to love driving up the Garden State Parkway when i was a kid and see the Pabst plant with it's giant Pabst bottle on top. That plant is now long since gone and defunct. Who would have thought that many year later that same young boy would have drunk thousands of said beer...

I'm sending this one out to my blog pal over at "I'm Learning to Share" for his love of all things oddball & kitch.... I doubt many people will have much use for this but it's cool to atleast listen to once or twice... and as i said before, "eclectic"...
man, i love that word.

Picked this acetate up at a yard sale years ago and could never really understand what the hell they were going to do with this thing, i mean it's more than just a jingle is a whole song about PBR! Clocking in at over 4 mins long this is about triple what a regular song being played on the radio back then would have clocked in at...

So tell me, what were they going to do with this thing???

Enjoy some PBR!

Hey, DD - - !

Thanks much for the shout out, and cheers to you, too!

Yeah, a cool find, and more than a little mysterious.

What jumps to mind is that Pabst may have had a promotional 'thankyou' record in mind that could have been played &/or given away at corporate business meetings, or sent to distributors, vendors, or retailers, or maybe even given away to folks coming to tour the brewery.

That notion feels right to me as the lyrics begin to sing the praises of Milwaukee, and Wisconsin in general. Plus the line at the end - - "...A toast to all our friends" - - perhaps as in - - 'Thanks for carrying/buying our product, here's a promo geegaw, maybe next time we'll give you a keychain or a hat.'

That you found an acetate could mean that they never went ahead with the idea.

But who knows what they were thinking. Hmmm...

Nice novelty, but being a "Bawlmer" kid, the nod has to go to the mighty "One Eyed Pimp" known as "Natty Boh" (referred elswhere as National Bohemian for those not in the know)...

Would you be interested in doing a guest mix for Fufu Stew? I've got lots of folks participating including Larry and Prestige. Drop me an email if you'd like. (black2007@verizon.net)

Peace and blessings.

PBR made a HUGE comeback in the Bay Area in the mid-90's, because all the bike messengers and hipsters loved it. Now you can find it in almost every bar in SF.

That 45 makes me want to crack open a cold one! It is Friday...

Indeed dk! I'm out the door right now and going down the bar to meet some friends!!!
