Jokers Wild - All I See Is You

Testing, testing...

Is this thing on?

Is there anybody out there?

The few, the proud, the demented...

Today on this VERY snowy day you get a kinda punky garage psych tune... Has a little bit of a 66 vibe but goes for some psych moves and what the fuck with the crazy theremin sound? is that theremin or one of those plastic whistles with a slide? I don't know anything about these guys but from the sound i'd say this is 1967 but what the fuck do i know. Ah, fuck it, no ones listening anyway...

Matters.

pfft, we don't need no stinking theremins..

the info i have on the record says it's from 1968...love the label artwork, looks like a 15 year old did the design....

To collect records is to be misunderstood and under appreciated.

I've been chained to my textbooks, but I had to drop by and say hey. I did get to dig some last week and found a handful of nice tunes. Some common, some not so.
Feel free to check 'em out

I'm listening to the tune now... Wicked stuff. Thanks for the share :)

Peace and blessings.

I think it's a whistle too :)

sorry, i've nothing much to share...

all i know is the band's from Minneapolis, that they put out two other singles on the Metrobeat label, and that All I See Is You is listed as being from 1968 on at least two comps..

nothing definitive...take it for what it's worth..

on the whole, the dates for Metrobeat singles are unknown...but it seems pretty clear that the label only existed for a short time..67-68 is likely..

so really, your guess is as good as anyone's...

there are comments on Garage Hangover from a couple of guys who claim to have seen the band play....and saying only that they were very good, and that all of the band members were tall [lol]..

my apologies if my comment made it sound as if i know more than than i do..

thanks dropping back in Ana!

I'm going to have to try and track down more 45's on "Metrobeat" now that i know more exist!

Thanks!

ana-b said...

actually, i'd think any single on Metrobeat is worth checking out...the label only issued 16...

i don't own it, but there's a comp called something like, The Metrobeat Story [???]....as i recall it was only ever issued on vinyl..

From "Fuzz, Acid, and Flowers":

Personnel incl:
PETE HUBER A
DENNY JOHNSON bs A
LONNIE KNIGHT A

45s:
1 All I See Is You/I Just Can't Explain It (Metrobeat 4451) 1968
2 Sunshine/Because I'm Free (Peak 4456) 1968
3 Tomorrow/Peace Man (Peak 4459) 1968

One of the better late sixties Minneapolis bands whose 45s are worth seeking. They split in 1970 and Johnson went on to record a solo pop 45 and Knight two solo LPs Family In The Wind (Flashlight/Symposium) 1974 and Song For A City Mouse (Flashlight/Symposium) 1975. They started out as a six-piece but ended up as a trio for their final recordings. They were clearly an experimental outfit.

The best source for their music is The Best Of Metrobeat! Vol. 1 (LP) compilation which includes the psychedelic "All I See Is You", "I Just Can't Explain It", "Because I'm Free", "Sunshine" and, perhaps best of all, a previously unreleased cut, "All The World's A Copper Penny."

Lonnie Knight went on to play with various groups including the Hoopsnakes, and is currently performing with Lonnie Knight and Big Shoes. For more information check: http://www.lonnieknight.com site.
