Unchained Mynds - Hole In My Shoe - Warm Smoke

From 1968 this four piece from LaCrosse Wisconsin give us a fuzzy and more garagey version of the Traffic classic "Hole In My Shoe" and one original? "Warm Smoke".

Apparently only 100 copies exist of their sole album "Everywhere Chainsaw Sound" not sure how "rare" the 45's are, there seems to be a bunch for sale on the interwebs but this is a cool lil' garage psych nugget. Highly rated by "Vernon Joynson".

Not much else I could dig up on these guys but bass player Clare Troyanek was later a member of another 60's Wisconsin group "The Ladds" according to "Fuzz Acid And Flowers Revisited" Digging up shit on these bands is tedious man and often yeilds little or no results, so any info is always HIGHLY appreciated...

That take on 'Hole In My Shoe' is a whole new category - 'Trip Pop'

"Apparently only 100 copies exist of their sole album Everywhere Chainsaw Sound" - there is no such album. Everywhere Chainsaw Sound is a compilation LP from 1982 that includes "Hole In My Shoe", along with songs by sixteen other bands.

P.S. "Warm Smoke" is not an original, it's a cover of co-writer Peter Antell's version. It was released in 1966 on the DynoVoice label, of Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels fame.

Thanks euphonic, i try my best to find accurate info on these groups but the interwbs are a sticky web indeed and i certainly make no claim to be an "expert" just a complete music fan!

I SAW these guys in LaCrosse WI. Lead singer was Randy Purdy.
They had a shot on American Bandstand also. This is too cool they are resurfacing. Really great music. Thanks

Man, loved this group when they were hot in LaCrosse. I recall the first single "Sugar is Sweet" which hit some of the charts and was the song they did on American Bandstand. At the time i became friends with Lindy Shannon and even took the record up to Janesville, Wisconsin where i went to school and talked the station there into playing it. Went to see them once. I was a bit surprised to find this song out here and not the one realy made famous. Unfortunately I don't have the single anymore. I had three singles by them but sold some '45s when in need of money, sad to say..

Ooops, i referenced the one song that was somewhat of a hit as "Sugar Is Sweet." Sorry about that - it was "We Can't Go On This Way" and it is on Youtube at:
