Neal Burris - The Sissy Song

Not much i could find out about Mr. Burris here 'cept this;

He was born March 11, 1929 and this is a 1951, cover version of the Billy Briggs song. Don't ask me how there are pictures of Neal on the interweb but no info.

Also, I'm pretty sure this Mr. Burris never shot himself in the leg... (OK the spelling is different but it's phonetically the same, you get the joke no?)

Neil Burris was a local country singer in Louisville, Kentucky. He later developed some kind of throat trouble and changed from country music to jazz, playing guitar in a local jazz combo.

Neal Burris was known as the Shuffing Cowboy...which as far as i can tell means he danced while he sang...i guess that was a novelty in those days..

He was a part of Pee Wee King's band during 53-54...and then formed his own group, the Melody Ramblers...

This was no small-time gig as Pee Wee King was very big in those days...had his own radio show and what was probably the very first country music television show starting in 1948 and continuing into the 50's, eventually broadcasting from Louisville, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Chicago..

According to Pee Wee King's autobiography, Burris ended up working in a Louisville clothing store..

If he shot himself anywhere it looks like he may have used your 45 to shield the path of the bullet! lol

Neal Burris was my grandmother's brother. He lived in Louisville all of my life, so we were not close, although I have heard many stories about him. He was quite a joker. I am not necessarily a big fan of country music, but I enjoy his music thoroughly.
