Screamin' Jay Hawkins - Alligator Wine - There's Something Wrong With You

Happy Monday people:

Here's a little something i just picked up last week at a record store near my work.

Me and the Red Boy went on over at lunch time and dug through the LP's and as we were running out of time and had to start getting back we decided to pay up and a get a moving back to the old slave grind. So as were walking up to the counter to pay we notice a few new boxes of 45's sitting on the counter and we just kinda looked at them and good old Red Boys says something to effect of "We don't have time" to which i reply "i know" as i say that i just randomly pull out a 45 in the middle of the box and turn and show him this little gem and then i say "maybe we should look?"

and we did...

There are a few clicks in pops in this classic 45 but hey, for 99 cents I aint complaining....

Enjoy some Screamin' Jay Hawkins on Okeh!

New Scores - Eye Candy

Got out for hot second this morning with my kiddies and found a few gems...

Ladies & Gents, today i give you something special from "Jeff"... among others.

The hook handed Jeff album has me totally intrigued but the damn thing is sealed and I'm a freak about opening sealed things but i may have to crack the seal on that one and do some sampling...

This makes the 3rd weekend in a row i actually got out and did some digging and i've just been to lazy to post any of my scores but as i sit here having a nice ice cold Spaten Oktoberfest and listening to some J.B. Lenoir i might start typing some finds but for now dig on some of the groovy vinyl eye candy i dug up today...

A hot mess of records in the back of a truck, a trip to my Father's, some scores & 50,000 hits....!!!

A hot mess of vinyl

This weekend after a Great BBQ and Pool party Saturday w/ friends I took a trip down to my Pops place Sunday in south NJ. Now I've not talked to my Dad since my Grandmother died a year & a half ago and to say the least I have been a bit pissed at him for missing his Grandson's birthdays and not even a card at Christmas for the boys but he called me a week or so ago with a peace offering of records. So I ponied up the Kids & the JJB for the trek down to see the old man. We sat and shot the shit for a while and watched the Yankee game and the boys were happy to see him and before we split I pulled these records out and threw them in the back of JJB's truck. I've not even gone through them really, just a quick peek, i saw some Beatles, some classical and a hodge podge of stuff but it's not what in the pile this time but the thought that really counts, so me & my pops made up which is good because neither of us are getting any younger. There was talk of a fishing trip soon as well, we will see what happens...

Mystery records:

So after out trip to south Jersey me and JJB made our way back to Philly Monday for some Great food and beer at "Nodding Heads" where i had a n awesome jerked chicken sandwich with fried plantains and Spanish fries, JJB had the fish and chips. The homemade beer was excellent as well...

I had the "Grog" and JJB sampled a few other things....

JJB gets her drink on!

So after some food & drink we made it on over to another record store than we have never been to before and the only thing stopping us there was time & money. But I managed to pick up a few things but had to get out of there before we could even go through 1% of the store. It was a diggers paradise! Records EVERYWHERE! Boxes of 45 tucked in every corner and hardly any rhyme or reason to any of it. It was a daunting task and JJB gave up quickly and i followed soon after. DJ Prestige and Jack the Ripper if you guys are listening? You need to get your asses out to Philly ASAP so we can take you guys to this wicked spot post haste! Tons of soul, funk, and jazz albums & 45's....

Make it so!!!

Here is the small pick up i scored:

Lp's:

The Dramatics - A Dramatic Experience - Volt (I already have this but this copy was CLEAN and only 3 bucks)

Hanson - Magic Dragon - Manticore (No, not THAT Hanson! Stay tuned for this one! This is some Rocking Funk induced music ala Hendrix inspired)

Drugs Won't Get It, People Will - An Educational Record About Narcotic Use - Private

45's:

Daddy Kae & Yvonne - Eleven Commandments Of Love / Shug!! - Fairmount
Black Heat - No Time To Burn / Super Cool - Atlantic
Natural Four - Can This Be Real / Try Love Again - Curtom
3 Of A Kind - Save It (Don't Give It Away) / You're Everything In Life - Sussex
Bobby Byrd - Keep On Doin' What You're Doing / Let Me Know - BrownStone
Black Blood - A. I. E. (A Mwana) / Marie - Therese - Mainstream
The Mustangs - Baby Let Me Take You Home / Davie Was A Bad Boy - Keetch

Like i said, we didn't even scratch the surface of what was there and i could have spent a thousand dollars had i had the $$$ to burn....

*edit: I just edited the title and added this little section because i just realized that I am over 50,000 hits! So many thanks to all the folks who stop by and check out my small little corner of the vinyl blog universe!

Cheers!

Cold as a witches tit this morning scores & red hot funk later tonight!!!

Man o' man it was cold this morning. After dropping my kids off this morning i got out to "the spot" albeit a little late. Jack the Ripper, Prime, Prestige & JJB were all already out there along with usual suspects, aka, the meatball, eggbeard & the old man, so i didn't hold much hope of finding anything after the bones were already picked clean by the vultures that were about but i dug deep and found a few things.

The old man was holding a record for me which I was thankful to score. A nice clean 1958 original stereo pressing of the Rock-A-Teens album woo-hoo. It's more rare than the mono and i guess it books pretty high, or at least the old man told me so. So needless to say this wasn't a dollar score buy WAY under what it books since he only "traded" for it. I'm psyched to have it because it's a great early little rock and roll record with some killer instrumental cuts. It has a little writing on the cover but whatever, you don't play the cover!

I also score some cool pic sleeves on the cheap @ 50 cent a pop and some cool 60's RnR/Psych 45's and a few cool LP's.

Anyway, looking forward to tonight's 45 session as i pulled some serious shit to spin and hope some folks will be digging the fuzzier side of some of my choices! I had a little mini heart attack this afternoon when i couldn't find one of my 45 boxes with hsome of my money in it! but alas it was found and I am fucking ready! A few scores and thanks!

I was going to post this on Sunday but waited until after the Flea Market Funk meets The Devil's Music mix was posted so it didn't get in the way.

Also want to give a public shout once again to DJ Pestige for the most exceelent job he did on the mix. I'm glad some folks dug it. I must have listened to both mixes 30 times already!

Thanks Pres you are truly the man!

So here goes last Sunday's post today!

I got up early today and believe it or not my little man wanted to get up and go to the flea market. Not to look for records but to look for star wars figures. So of course i was all up for it and got a little digging in. It was cold but the coffee was hot. And there was a lot of action out there even with the tables covered in frost. I found some cool records on the cheap but no star wars guy for the little man. I had to explain to him that some days you score & some days you don't but its all in the trying.

Here is a list of some of the scores: I got a nice mix of Rock & Soul stuff with some cool & odd LP's. Some of this stuff I already own but these were pretty nice clean copies.

If anyone has any information on the Ill Bred Mind 45 please let me know! I had to buy a whole box of common stuff to score it and I wasn't going to let another Soul Invaders Inc scenario happen so I bought the whole box just to get this one 45. It is an organ heavy psych number with a cover of "walk on by" on the flip and no information on the record at all, not even song credits. I looked online and seached popsike and couldn't turn up anything on it so if anyone has and info please contact me and let me know as it seems pretty "rare"...
