Sparkle Moore - Skull And Cross Bones - Rock-A-Bop

You Should Be Labeled With A Skull And Cross Bones!

Your A Jinx To My Soul!

Sparkle Moore (born Barbara Morgan in 1939 in Omaha, Nebraska) is a rockabilly singer, who recorded only a few songs during her career, but was highly influential as a pioneer of female rockabilly. Her name was earned because of her similarity to Sparkle, a supporting character in the Dick Tracy comic strip. Sparkle dressed in men's clothing, often including leather, and sported an Elvis-influenced pompadour.
In 1956, she toured with Gene Vincent and was scheduled to perform on the Grand Ol' Opry, which was subsequently cancelled due to illness. In 1957, Sparkle retired from music after becoming pregnant to concentrate on raising a family.

This one has been on my hit list for a many a long year. Just unearthed for a scant 1 dollar. Its a well played little record but it still gots it!!!

Joey Rand - The Long Blond Curls - Heaven Is Where You Are

Pretty rare rockabilly record from Joey Rand on Blue Grass Records out of Kentuckey. The Long Blond Curls is the money. Heaven is where you are is a pretty lame vocal ballad, imho. I can't seem to find a date for this but the other 2 records on Blue Grass are from 1958 and 1959 so i guess this could be 1957, 58 or 59...?

The Long Blond Curls was comped on SLOW BOOGIE ROCKIN' Volume 1 CD i couldn't find much more on Mr. Rand. Just another in long line of lost wanna be rockers...

Babs Gonzales - Babs Five Rocks And A Roll - Voila - No Fools No Fun

Strange one today... French rock and roll back with some Calypso by Babs Gonzales. Some more New Jersey greatness...

Babs Gonzales (October 27, 1919 – January 23, 1980), born Lee Brown, was an American jazz vocalist of the bebop era most notable for penning the song "Oop-Pop-A-Da", which was originally recorded and performed by his own band (Three Bips and a Bop) and was later made famous by Dizzy Gillespie . Babs was also once the chauffeur for Errol Flynn. In 1967, Babs published an autobiography entitled: "I Paid My Dues: Good Times... No Bread - A Story of Jazz" (Lancer Books).
Gonzales was born in Newark, NJ. He was known to be an exponent of vocalese, an example of this would be his version of the Charlie Parker bop standard "Ornithology". From 1950 to 1953, Gonzales was road manager and vocalist for the James Moody band and later gigged and recorded with musicians such as Jimmy Smith, Bennie Green, Lenny Hambro and Johnny Griffin. Sonny Rollins also made his recording debut with Gonzales. He was also a Beat poet.

Fay Simmons - Bells - Where Is My Love

What little information i could find on Mrs. Simmons was found at Color Radio: Check it out for more details...

She was from my current place of residence, Philadelphia. This 45 is from 1961. Bells is a bit of a mid tempo rocker & kinda of haunting in a weird way, with Where Is My Love being very sultry. A nice little record. I've seen this listed as "Northern Soul"...

The Chanters - No No No - I Make This Pledge (To You)

The Chanters, from Queens, NY, sounded like Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers, but the similarities ended there - the group never enjoyed any fame and had only one hit (and that occurred after they had called it quits). The members were Larry Pendergrass, Elliot Green, Fred Paige, Bud Johnson, and Bobby Thompson. Johnson's father, Bud Johnson, Sr. (who composed "Since I Fell for You" and recorded during the '40s and '50s for Decca and Mercury) tutored the group and wrote lavish arrangements for their singles. He also used his influence and contacts to get the Chanters a deal with Deluxe Records in 1958.

Their first record, the bona fide rocker "My, My Darling," languished, as did subsequent singles: "Row Your Boat," "Five Little Kisses," and "No, No, No" (as Bud Johnson & the Chanters), all released in 1958. They left Deluxe to record "For Sentimental Reasons" as the Voices Five on Craft Records in 1959, their last time in the studio, but not their last release. In 1961, Deluxe reissued "No, No, No" a second time, and this time backed it with bucks; it became the Chanters first chart record at number 41 pop, and number nine R&B. Though Deluxe released two more Chanters singles, the group had disbanded and never benefited from their hit record.

See what money can do....?

The Paradons - Diamonds And Pearls - I Want Love

The Paradons were an American doo wop group from Bakersfield, California.

The group began by singing locally at school dances and clubs. Within a few months they secured a recording session with Milestone Records, and recorded eight songs. Their first release with the label, "Diamonds and Pearls" b/w "I Want Love", became a hit in the U.S., peaking at #27 on the Black Singles chart and #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1960. The group appeared on American Bandstand and at the Apollo Theatre in the wake of its success. The group broke up shortly after over monetary disputes, having been together less than a year in total.[2] Despite the group's demise, Marathon continued releasing singles from their initial recording sessions, but these releases - "Bells Ring", "Take All of Me", and I Had a Dream" - did not chart.

Diamonds and Pearls might have been the hit, but the money is in I Want Love. A Nice Up-tempo rocker!

The Volumes - I Love You - Dreams

Great R&B vocal Doo Wop today from 1962 by The Volumes on the Chex record label.

The Volumes (sometimes written as The Volume's) were an American R&B vocal group formed in 1960 in Detroit, Michigan. The group's 1962 single for Chex Records, "I Love You", was a hit in the U.S., peaking at #22 that year on the Billboard Hot 100. The tune was an amalgam of doo wop and Latin beats, and was co-written by bass Ernest Newsom and the group's manager, Willie Ewing. The group recorded further singles for Chex and American Arts but never returned to the charts, remaining archetypical one-hit wonders.

This was one of the great records i pulled that day... Any way this is from 1955 and on the excellent Excello label. these guys were from Nashville TN and only put a few records out from 1955 to 1956. They also appeared under the names Johnny Bragg & The Marigolds and The Solotones.

Jess Du Boy and The Hitch-Hikers - Beautiful Love

The man behind the WOO-HOO, WOO-HOO-HOO from the Rock-A-Teens! This song was a few years prior to Jess hooking up w/ the Rock-A-Teens. And is a good one all on its own, but obviously never attained Woo-Hoo status...
