What we have here is a great guitar instrumental from 1962.... Nice stinging guitar work and some almost creepy organ that sounds a bit like maybe Johnny and the Hurricanes type stuff but way more odd and creepy sounding. This almost has a Halloween novelty type vibe. Man I love this shit but sadly i can't out much about this great groovy rocker... Anyone???
The Night Hawks - Rockin' Hawk
Some of the playing makes me wonder whether Roy Buchanan dropped in on the session.
ReplyDeleteI don't know the group (or the composer) but I'll have to look for this one. I pick up ALON 45s whenever I find them, mainly for the Allen Toussaint connection.
ReplyDeleteI just gave this another listen and the guitar sounds a LOT like Albert Collins, but I don't know of him having recorded in New Orleans, or with a group called the Night Hawks. Hmmmm...
ReplyDeleteGive it a title like "The Creepy Crawl" and it would be a Halloween-type-novelty rocker. Great record.
ReplyDeletelarry, if anyone can find out the info about this record i KNOW you can!!!
